Alec Stewart To Become England's Interim Coach For The Test Series vs West Indies – Reports

According to the reports, former cricketer Alec Stewart is set to become the interim head coach of the England National Cricket Team for the upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies, which is set to begin on March 08, Tuesday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua.

Also, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will soon make a decision on head coach Chris Silverwood and his assistant Graham Thorpe’s fate after England’s horrible performance in the Ashes 2021-22. After a call is taken on Silverwood and Thorpe, the board will make a squad announcement for the Test series against West Indies.

Joe Root-led England lost the Ashes 2021-22 by 0-4 against Australia. England lost the first match by 9 wickets at the Gabba, the second game by 275 runs at the Adelaide Oval and the third game by an innings and 14 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, they managed to avoid the whitewash with a hard-fought draw in the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Also, England lost the last match of the series by 146 runs at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

Alec Stewart Under Consideration To Become Interim Coach

The England and Wales cricket board will be taking suggestions from former skipper Andrew Strauss, who has been entrusted with the task of recommending how England can recover after the disappointing Ashes run. Strauss will also have a big say in the decision on coach Silverwood and skipper Joe Root’s future.

According to a report in the dailymail.co.uk, Alec Stewart is under consideration to become an interim coach.

“Stewart is under consideration to become an interim coach. And Strauss should turn now to a man who is the epitome of the professionalism and cricketing wisdom England so desperately need,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, Andrew Strauss could return as a “kingmaker with the power to decide what and who comes next” and he can even make a decision on what role he will be playing in the revitalization of England in Test cricket.

As per reports, the best thing is Strauss returning to the team director’s role, while Stewart becomes the interim coach for the Test series against West Indies.

Meanwhile, with Alec Stewart becoming interim coach, Strauss will get enough time to “cast his net wider” and look for other coaching options available in world cricket like Graham Ford, Gary Kirsten etc.
