England and Australia go head to head in the second T20I in Canberra on October 12. After being rested in the first game, the strike bowlers of Australia Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are available for selection for the last two matches. Both teams head onto the T20 World Cup from here on.

Australia lost the high-scoring first game by 8 runs, David Warner scored a valiant 73 off 44 balls as the Aussies fell short by 8 runs. Mitchell Marsh scored 35 and Marcus Stoinis scored 36 to keep them in the hunt. However, the England bowlers worked up well to defend the total.

England, batting first scored 208/6 riding on scores from Ales Hales (84) and Jos Buttler (68). Hales’ experience of playing franchise cricket in Australia helped him anchor the innings for his side.

“Really proud, it was a good all-round performance, the way we batted and then defended was outstanding. We thought at one point when Warner and Stoinis were going, we had slipped away our chance of winning, but great to come back. Grateful for the chance at the top of the order – the experience of playing for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash has helped me while playing on these surfaces” said Hales who was chosen as the Man Of the Match.

Jos Buttler was happy with the win despite the controversy surrounding Matthew Wade. The Australian wicketkeeper was criticised of obstructing the field in an attempt to save his wicket off the bowling of Mark Wood in the 17h over of their innings.

“It was a great game of cricket and I was delighted to go over the line. They played outstandingly and put us under pressure (on Australia), it was important for us to take wickets, which is what Wood and Curran did. I was looking at the ball and didn’t notice what exactly happened (on the possible obstruction by Wade)” said Buttler.
