India’s spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the wrecker in chief as the Men in Blue restricted South Africa for just 99 runs in the third and series-deciding ODI of the three-match series which is being played in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 11, 2022.

India captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and chose to bowl first as the pitch was under covers for three days as rain poured for two straight days and there was no sun today as well. India went in unchanged in this match.

South Africa, on the other hand, had their third captain in the third match, as David Miller made his ODI captaincy debut. They made three changes as well, as Andile Phehlukwayo came in for Wayne Parnell, Lungi Ngidi replaced Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen came in for Keshav Maharaj, who was unwell.

India bowlers didn’t give any freebies to Proteas batters and Dhawan opened with Washington Sundar, who removed Quinton de Kock for 6 runs, while Mohammed Siraj took care of Reeza Hendricks for 3, and Janneman Malan for 15 runs.

After that, it was a procession of wickets as Heinrich Klaasen top-scored with 34 runs. Sundar picked 2/15, Mohammed Siraj picked 2/17, and Shahbaz Ahmed took 2/32.

However, the pick of the bowlers remained left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav who took 4/18 in 4.1 overs as South Africa was bundled out for 99 runs in 27.1 overs. His victims were Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Bjorn Fortuin and Anrich Nortje. The 99 is South Africa’s lowest total in ODIs against India.

The commentators had a talk with Kuldeep Yadav after the Proteas’ innings finished.

He said: “Feeling happy to take four wickets, have taken four wickets after such a long time. I was trying something different before IPL, and I am enjoying my bowling since then. I missed the hat-trick, could have bowled quicker. Should have changed the angle.

“I think Washington bowled really well. The wicket was gripping, I tried to bowl seam-up deliveries, tried to mix it up with the pace, tried to set up the batters.

“I was working on my rhythm, I was a bit slower before my injury. I am not compromising with spin, just trying to work on my rhythm.”
