The 31-year-old Australia National Cricket Team star right-arm pacer Josh Hazlewood is doubtful for the start of the upcoming Test series against South Africa National Cricket Team after being ruled out of the second and final Test against West Indies National Cricket Team due to a side strain, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Australia are currently involved in a two-match Test series against West Indies. The Baggy Greens won the first Test comfortably by 164 runs in Perth and the second Test is currently underway in Adelaide.

After the series against the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side, the Aussies will take on the Proteas in a three-match Test series. The first Test will be played from December 17 to 21 in Brisbane, the second Test will be held in Melbourne from December 26 to 30, and the final Test will be played in Sydney from January 4 to 8.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia on Thursday announced that Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Test against West Indies due to “general soreness” but further investigation revealed the side strain. The premier pacer is set to return to Sydney on Friday for rehabilitation and be assessed again after the ongoing two-match Test series.

Also, Michael Neser replaced Hazlewood in the XI against West Indies, which was the second change to the hosts’ pace attack as Scott Boland had replaced injured Pat Cummins.

Talking about Josh Hazlewood, captain Pat Cummins said that he is “pretty understandably flat”.

I feel for Joshy, he’s pretty understandably flat,” Cummins told Channel 7. “It’s a low-level strain in his side. He was a little bit sore after the last Test match, had a bowl in the nets yesterday to prove his fitness and was a bit sorer than we’d all hoped.”

The current situation of Josh Hazlewood is remarkably similar to the one he found himself during Ashes 2021-22 when he picked up a side strain against England in Brisbane and then missed the rest of the Ashes.

Notably, the first Test match of the series against West Indies was Hazlewood’s just second outing in Test cricket since the Brisbane game against England.
