This will also be the final edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a four-match Test series. According to the ICC’s Future Tours & Programme (FTP), it will be contested over five tests beginning in 2024.

After a five-year wait, Delhi will host a Test for the first time. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the city missed out, having last hosted a Test against Sri Lanka in 2017.

This will be India’s first red-ball cricket match against Australia since their legendary 2-1 series win in Australia in 2020-21.

As a result, Australia will be the fourth country to visit India for Tests following the covid epidemic. The BCCI has previously hosted England, New Zealand (both in 2021), and Sri Lanka (2022).
