Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of Namibia, has been named the 2022 ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year. The Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year had a fantastic 2022, leading his team from the front with the bat and on the field.

It would be difficult for Erasmus and his Namibian colleagues to duplicate their success from 2021, despite the fact that the team’s captain once again excelled in 2022, making his impact in both white-ball competitions.

The 27-year-old came quite close to scoring 1000 ODI runs throughout the calendar year, which is even more remarkable given that only eight of his 20 innings took place at home.

With a game-winning score of 121* (120) against Oman in Dubai to start his ODI cricket season, Erasmus made a strong first impression. The right-hander went on to score eight half-centuries. Prior to playing in two tri-series at home, Erasmus elevated his bat on League 2 tours to Scotland and Papua New Guinea.

As he guided Namibia to 13 victories from their 21 ODIs in the year, Erasmus also contributed with a dozen wickets on the circuit, helping Namibia make a late push for the Cricket World Cup League 2 title.

Erasmus kept improving in the power game in the T20I arena. Before helping significantly in his team’s historic T20I series victory over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, he struck an undefeated century against Uganda in a home T20I series.

The team’s performance in their second consecutive T20 World Cup was aided by Erasmus’ batting efforts, and leading his squad to victory over Sri Lanka to open the tournament will undoubtedly rank among his career highlights.

Erasmus was wise to rotate bowlers, who supported the team’s recovery from 93/6 to 163/7 with a solid team effort. The captain accepted Dushmantha Chameera’s catch to clinch the comeback victory, which shocked the world.
