Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting provided a huge fitness update about senior opener David Warner ahead of the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said that batter has gained full fitness and is ready to go.

David Warner since the last few days has been battling a thumb injury in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The batter while fielding in the game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow hurt himself.

There were a lot of speculations about him playing the game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, he wasn't fit enough as he didn't get the fitness clearance and then went on to miss the game against the 2022 winners of the league.

With Delhi Capitals now set to lock horns with rampaging Sunrisers Hyderabad, head coach Ricky Ponting came up with a big positive update. He stated that the batter was 85% fit a couple of days and is returning to his fitness as each day passes by in the tournament.

Ricky Ponting further stated that David Warner will be undergoing a batting session against pacers to make sure that he is fit. He also claimed that the batter has almost gained full fitness and will be in contention to play against SRH. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"He was 85 or 90 per cent fit a couple of days ago. We'd expect that there'd be a little bit more improvement from him today. But he'll have to do a lot of batting today against fast bowling to make sure that the pain he had last week is not anymore. So, hopefully, he's fit and ready."

David Warner has been one of the top performers in the IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals. The opening batter has scored 166 runs from 6 matches. He will be extremely important for his team going ahead into the tournament.

We don't mind having a shootout tomorrow - Ricky Ponting on the game against SRH

Ricky Ponting further stated that they will have a shootout ahead of the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is aware of the fact that the opposition plays and claims that they also have a good batting lineup. He added:

"We don't mind having a shootout tomorrow if it's a high-scoring game, so be it. We know and expect that they're going to play the way they've played so far in the tournament which has been going hard at the top of the order with the bat, and trying to post a big first innings total. So, we're happy to try and match them in that. We think we've got as good a batting line-up if not better batting line-up than theirs."

Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be up against each other on 20th April. It will be a crucial game for the Rishabh Pant-led side in the context of the points table.
