BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has been in the news since he held his position in October 2019. The Indian cricket team played some really good cricket across formats but was not able to win any ICC title, the last of which came under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in 2013 when India won the ICC Champions Trophy.

The recent series of events with Virat Kohli losing his captaincy and Wriddhiman Saha losing the favour of the selectors after Sourav Ganguly himself assuring Saha’s future badly exposed his interventions in the decision making of the selectors.

As per the rules stated, the BCCI President is not allowed to have any say in any capacity regarding team meetings and selections but Sourav Ganguly has been breaking the law time and again.

Also as per reports in Indian Express, Ganguly had attended every selection meeting since his appointment as the BCCI President in 2019. The same was confirmed by three past and present selectors under Ganguly’s tenure. The current chairman of selectors, Chetan Sharma, has featured in 23 Tests and 65 One-day Internationals and his predecessor M S K Prasad in six Tests and 17 ODIs.

The management had taken some key decisions since Sourav Ganguly took charge as the BCCI President. As stated, the decisions included removing Virat Kohli as India’s captain across formats, the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the India white-ball and red-ball captain and the treatment meted out to the senior players in the Test side especially.

Various board officials said that the selectors were reluctant to express their opinion on the selection policies considering the former captain’s stature. The former Indian skipper played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs or India and is among the most successful captains of India.
