Glenn Maxwell's Innings Against Afghanistan Isn't The Greatest - Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly made a bold remark about Glenn Maxwell’s innings against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. He denied terming it as one of the greatest knocks in ODIs and said that he has seen more fantastic knocks than it. 

Glenn Maxwell has been in the headlines ever since he played a blinder of a knock against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. The all-rounder snatched victory for Australia from the jaws of defeat and entered his name in the record books 

Australia had very little chance to win the game but Glenn Maxwell did unimaginable. The team was tumbling at 91/7 while chasing 292 runs. However, he unleashed his beast mode and played some brutal strokes that brought his side back in the game and put the opposition under immense pressure. 

Glenn Maxwell slammed a magnificent unbeaten 201-run knock and powered his team to the semi-final of the tournament. His innings were special because he was down with cramps and could hardly walk. Despite being in tremendous pain, he batted magnificently well and played some glorious shots with minimal footwork, that awestruck many. 

Sourav Ganguly was asked by RevSportz, if Glenn Maxwell’s innings was one of the greatest innings. Replying to which, he stated: “No no. I have seen some fantastic innings. From Sachin. From Virat.” 

“It was a fantastic innings. Not the best of bowling and captaincy but a fantastic innings,” Ganguly added.

Notably, many fans and experts rated Glenn Maxwell’s innings as the greatest in the ODIs. His 201-run knock was the highest score by any batter in the chase.

South African batter David Miller was all praise for the Glenn Maxwell. He said that the all-rounder is an X factor for his team. Speaking to reporters, he explained: 

“Of course. Seeing a knock like that was really special. He’s an X-Factor, a match winner. It was inspiring to see no foot movement there and still hitting sixes and fours. From a game where they were dead and buried.” 

Australia and South Africa will be facing each other in the semi-final of the World Cup 2023. It’ll be an exciting clash to watch as both teams have played the staggering brand of cricket.
