Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly expressed his desire for an India-Pakistan match in the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC World Cup. Sourav Ganguly highlighted the immense significance of the clash between the arch-rivals in the crucial stage of the tournament.

The Rohit Sharma-led team was the first side to advance to the semifinal stage of the marquee tournament. The hosts are currently at the top of the table, having secured seven victories in the event. They have 14 points in their tally, with a net run rate (NRR) of +2.102.

On the other hand, the Babar Azam-led team has not yet secured their place in the knockout stages. The Men in Green currently occupy fifth place in the table with 8 points. They have the potential to qualify for the playoffs if the results of their next matches favor them.

There Can’t Be A Bigger Semi-Final Than India vs Pakistan – Sourav Ganguly

Speaking to a local news channel, Sourav Ganguly emphasized that there couldn’t be a more significant and anticipated semi-final than one featuring the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan.

“I want Pakistan to qualify for semi-finals here [Kolkata] because there can’t be a bigger semi-final than India versus Pakistan,” Ganguly said.

The Men in Blue are scheduled to play their semi-final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, regardless of their position in the table. However, they will play at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata if India and Pakistan are set to face each other in a knockout match.

This Pakistan Team Can’t Handle Pressure – Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly expressed doubts about Pakistan’s ability to make a comeback in the World Cup due to their disappointing batting performance. He highlighted that the Pakistan team struggles under pressure, making it challenging for them to succeed in the tournament.

“This Pakistan team can’t handle the pressure during the batting. It will be hard for Pakistan to come back in this World Cup with this batting,” Ganguly added.

The Pakistan team will take on England in their last group stage match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday, November 11. Pakistan will be hoping New Zealand loses their next match, which will enhance their semi-final chances.
