Kane Williamson On Track Where We Want Him To Be - Gary Stead Hopeful Of The Skipper's Return For England Test Series

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is quite optimistic about the possibility of Kane Williamson returning to the Test setup when England will host the Black Caps for a 3-match Test series.

Williamson has recovered from his injury and is now playing in the IPL 2022 season where he is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). If things go well, Williamson should be back to lead the Black Caps.

“Everything’s going to plan in terms of how he’s feeling and how he’s preparing. He’s on track with where we want him to be, with our view of getting him ready for the Test match series in England.”

“At the moment, Kane’s just out of that role because he hasn’t been available for us. So when Kane comes back, I expect him to be captain for us again. He’s one of our great batsmen, so he’ll always be missed,” Stead said.

Without the likes of Williamson in the Test team, New Zealand might find it hard especially when they play away from home. Ross Taylor has also retired meaning the two most experienced players of the Kiwi side will be missing.

“But we still maintain that it was the right thing by Kane and it’ll be the right thing by us in the long term. The catch-22 is, Kane comes back early, scores a hundred, and his elbow’s gone again, and then we’d be in the same place. I’d like him to play everything.”

He’s dying to play cricket for New Zealand again, I can absolutely assure you of that – but we can’t burn him out in the future, we have to be smart around those things,” Stead added.
