KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant Likely To Receive Promotion In BCCI Central Contracts - Reports

According to the reports, Indian opening batsman KL Rahul, who is the stand-in ODI captain for the South Africa series, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant are most likely to receive a promotion in the BCCI central contracts.

Indian opening batsman KL Rahul has grown a lot as a player and is looked at as the future captain of the Indian team. He has been a regular member of India in white-ball cricket for a good amount of time and now he has also become a regular opener in the Test team. Rahul had even led the Indian Test team in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Rahul has been appointed as the deputy of Rohit Sharma in limited-overs cricket and rumours are he will become a permanent captain or vice-captain in Test cricket as well.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is also the first choice wicketkeeper across all three formats and he is looked at as the future leader of the Indian team.

The BCCI has four categories – A+, A, B and C – which carry annual retainership of Rs 7 crore, Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore respectively.

Currently, Rahul and Pant are in the group A, but it will be interesting to see whether the future leaders receive an upgrade and join Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah in the elite A+ category.

“Obviously, Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah being the three indispensable players across formats would be in A plus category beyond doubt. But now Rahul and Pant are slowly establishing themselves as all-format regulars, so it needs to be seen whether the duo gets promotion or not,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Also, the retainerships are decided by the three office-bearers, five selectors and the national head coach.

The reports from TOI state that massive changes won’t be made to the 28 names featured in the 2021 list. However, some serious discussions are set to take place about the composition of the current groups.

Grade B: Wriddhiman Saha, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Agarwal

Grade C: Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Md. Siraj.
