The 37-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team pacer Wahab Riaz has hinted that the left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir might once again represent Pakistan in international cricket.

Amir announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in December 2020, having already retired from Test cricket in July 2019.

The left-arm pacer had retired, citing ill-treatment from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He told that the management “mentally tortured” him and added that he didn’t “want to play international cricket anymore”.

“I’ve been tortured by being told the PCB invested a lot in me. I’ll just say two people invested in me a lot: Najam Sethi and Shahid Afridi. They were the only two. The rest of the team was saying, ‘we don’t want to play with Amir’,” Amir said in his retirement announcement in 2020.

Riaz said that the star pacer Amir might make a comeback in the Pakistan squad to fight for the third pacer’s slot.

“We may see Mohammad Amir coming back to play for Pakistan once again,” Wahab was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan in an interview with Samaa News.

“We have Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf but the other three spots are still available. Bowlers like Hasan (Ali), (Shahnawaz) Dahani, Naseem (Shah), (Muhammad) Wasim are fighting for it. Amir may come back, too,” he added.

Riaz’s remark came after the sacking of Ramiz Raja as PCB chief. Notably, Najam Sethi has been named as the new PCB chief and he is heading a 14-member committee that has been appointed to run the affairs of the game for the next four months. Also, Shahid Afridi has been named as the new interim chief of the Men’s Selection Committee.
