Swashbuckling Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has thanked head coach Ravi Shastri for giving him a grand welcome on return to the Indian camp in Durham on Wednesday.

Rishabh Pant rejoined Team India’s contingent on Wednesday evening after he returned negative for Covid.

Pant did not join the contingent initially after reports emerged that he was down with Covid. As a result, he was deemed unavailable for the three-day warm-up game that India is currently playing against County Select XI at the Riverside Emirates.

As per the statement released by the BCCI, Pant tested positive for the deadly virus when he was at his relatives’ place earlier this month. He was immediately isolated and following a second negative Covid RT-PCR test, the 23-year-old was deemed fit to join the Indian contingent on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was showered with a garland on his return to the Indian dressing room in Durham.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Pant shared pictures of him with a garland around his neck and quoted a famous dialogue from a Shah Rukh Khan movie before expressing his gratitude towards Shastri.

‘’हार ? के बाद ही जीत है और जितने वाले को कहते है बाज़ीगर?. Thrilled to be back. Thank you @RaviShastriOfc for this grand welcome”

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri also took to his official Twitter account to post a picture of himself with Rishabh Pant besides taking a cheeky dig at the ‘noisy’ wicketkeeper-batter.

‘’Covid return back in the house. Brilliant. Noisier dressing room already @RishabhPant17 #TeamIndia

The news of Rishabh Pant joining the Indian set-up comes as a piece of welcome news for the touring party, which is already grappling with an ever-increasing injury list before the start of the five-match series with Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar joining Shubman Gill as players who have been ruled out of the remainder of the English tour.
