Former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt opined his views on the recent criticism on Waqar Younis’ statements during the India-Pakistan game, which had bloated on the online media. Waqar Younis speaking to a news channel, had mentioned that his favourite part in the match against India was the offering of “Namaz” by Mohammad Rizwan in front of the “Hindus” during the interval break.

The statement had certainly taken a toll on the internet, and many of the experts weren’t happy with his comments. The likes of Harsha Bhogle, Venkatesh Prasad, was quick to react to Waqar’s statement, and they showed their displeasure towards it. However, Waqar had later realized the intensity of his statement showing diversity in religions and apologized for it through his tweet.

“We Should Not Go Below The Belt” – Salman Butt

Salman Butt voiced out his opinion on the statement made by Waqar Younis, and he reckoned that the beliefs and respect for every culture and religion should be considered. He added that it is not a good comment to make, even it is an Indian player or Pakistani player.

“It does not matter which country you come from, whatever your beliefs are, there should be mutual respect for each other’s culture and religion. Nothing should be spoken, which hurts people’s sentiments and makes them feel bad. Whether it is an Indian or Pakistani player, current or ex, we should not go below the belt,” Salman Butt mentioned

“It Is Important To Have A Balanced Mindset” – Salman Butt

Salman Butt reckoned that the popularity of the players should be driven in the right way and noted that a balanced mindset is key in any aspect. He added that it was totally unexpected from a former player like Waqar Younis and felt it was unfortunate.

“There are lots of players who have been blessed and have become superstars of the game. It is important to have a balanced mindset. You don’t expect such things to be said from certain corners. Unfortunately, it has happened.” Butt added

Waqar Younis played 87 tests and 262 ODIs for Pakistan and is one of the greatest bowlers of all time.
