ICC World Cup 2019: 5 Players Who Could Hit Double HundredThe 300-run mark has become a norm in the One Day International cricket. Thus, the batsmen are playing with much more freedom. The batters are hitting the ground running from the get-go.

Thus, the limited overs format has revolutionized in the last decade especially after the emergence of Twenty20 version.

Meanwhile, in the last eight years, we have seen seven double tons been scored in the 50-overs format. Sachin Tendulkar was the first one to scale the mountain of the two hundred runs, and since then, six batsmen have followed Master Blaster’s footsteps.

However, we saw Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill smash double hundreds in the previous edition of the ICC World Cup. Thus, we may encounter same achievements in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales.

Meanwhile, it should be noted a top-order batsman has a better chance of scoring a double ton in ODI version than a middle-order batsman because he faces more deliveries.

Here are the five players who could smash a double century in the upcoming ODI carnival.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the best white-ball batsmen in the world. The Indian skipper traditionally builds his ODI innings. The right-hander takes his time in the initial stages of his innings. Furthermore, Kohli is super consistent in his run-making.

However, Kohli doesn’t possess the hard-hitting capabilities in his arsenal. Nonetheless, he has the skills to play down the field. India’s number three batsman is a master in finding his gaps, and he backs his perfect timing.

Kohli averages a stunning 58.11 and strikes his runs at 92.11. Thus Virat Kohli would be in contention to make a double hundred in the next year ICC World Cup.

Martin Guptill

New Zealand’s Martin Guptill wrote his name in the history books when he scored a fine unbeaten 237 against the Windies in the previous World Cup.

It is the highest individual score in the World Cup tournament. The Kiwis opener has skills to hit the ground running from the get-go.

Guptill scores his runs at a strike rate of 86.4. Consequently, the right-hander is instrumental in the success of the Blackcaps.

Therefore, Guptill will like to repeat his previous edition performance in the upcoming ODI showpiece of the cricket world. It would be a perfect opportunity for the right-hander to provide a perfect platform for his team once again.

Alex Hales

Hales

Alex Hales recently smashed 147 off 92 balls against Australia. The England right-hander has the skills to score his runs at a brisk rate. However, his place in the England team is not stable.

With Roy and Bairstow performing well, Hales will have to come up with consistent performances to cement his place in the England final XI. The England batsman scores his runs at a strike rate of 96.9.

Furthermore, Hales had scored a fine 171 off 122 balls against Pakistan in 2016. Thus, the Trent Bridge local lad can definitely scale the mountain of 200 runs in the upcoming World Cup.

With three double hundreds already under his bag, Rohit Sharma will look to repeat his masterclass at the biggest stage in the World Cup.

Rohit is well known to ride his innings in the top-most gear after reaching the 100-run landmark.

He can accelerate at a quick pace, and it is all but impossible to put the break on his innings if he gets going. With a strike rate of 86.97, Rohit can demolish any attack. However, he will have to be precautious of the moving ball in the English conditions.

Rohit has cracked the formula of scoring the double hundreds in the 50-overs format. Thus, he will like to deliver the goods in the mega event which will be held next year.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock has the skills to catapult his attack on the opposition from the word go. The South African wicketkeeper-batsman scores his runs at a strike rate of 93.99.

Meanwhile, the southpaw batsman had scored a fine 178 off 112 balls against the Australian bowling battery. Thus, he has the potential to scale 200-run in the upcoming edition of the World Cup.

In fact, de Kock will have the extra onus on his shoulders in the absence of AB de Villiers. Thus, the left-hander will look to provide a good start to the Proteas.
