Ishant Sharma To Miss Ranji Trophy Semifinal Due To Niggle In Ankle

Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Ranji Trophy semifinal game due to niggle in his ankle. He was one of the players to be released by BCCI to play the Ranji Trophy but Ishant will not be available for the game due to the injury.

It has come as a big blow for Delhi as the stateside was expecting to gain the services of their regular skipper but now, they would without their prime player.

Rishab Pant will continue to lead the team while Navdeep Saini will also continue to lead the pace attack. Ishant’s unavailability also means that both Kulwant Khejroliya and Akash Sudan will also be retained. In case he would have been available for the game, one of these two would have been benched.

Now, in fact, skipper Rishab Pant is expected to retain the same squad from the last game where they defeated Madhya Pradesh in the quarterfinal game.

Delhi will face Manoj Tiwary led Bengal in the semifinal in Pune. Bengal has got two big boosts ahead of the contest as Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha have been named in the side for the semifinal.

These two players are not the part of the limited-overs side for the ongoing series against Sri Lank and were free to take part in the tournament. BCCI decided to give them some match practice before the team flies to South Africa for the Test series.

KL Rahul and Umesh Yadav have also been released to play Ranji. Both are expected to turn out for their respective states. However, KL Rahul’s case has come as a surprise as this also confirms that he will not play T20I series against Sri Lanka. He is part of the T20I side.
