Australia cricketer Joe Burns will replace Shaun Marsh at Glamorgan after the left-handed batsman sustained a shoulder injury, which will keep him out for few weeks.

As a result, Burns will join Usman Khawaja, as the club’s overseas acquisition. Burns could play his first game on July 20 (Friday), when Glamorgan takes on Somerset.

He will return to Australia before Queensland’s JLT One-Day Cup opener on September 16. Thus, Joe Burns will miss the T20 Blast finals, should his side qualify. He, however, will not play first-class cricket for Glamorgan, as the club is yet to announce the replacement.

Burn had a successful season with Brisbane Heat scoring over 200 runs in seven games. He smashed the ball brilliantly which was instrumental for him to get a go with the County side.

On the other hand, Cricket Australia will get a major boost with the news that Shaun Marsh will not need surgery. Thus he will be available for the Test series against Pakistan in October.

The southpaw will play a crucial role in the absence of David Warner, Steven Smith, and Cameron Bancroft.

Shaun consulted a specialist in relation to his AC joint injury and it was determined that surgery is not required,” CA’s medical officer John Orchard said of Marsh on Tuesday (July 17). “He’ll now undergo rehabilitation with a focus on ensuring he is available for selection ahead of the next away tour against Pakistan,” he added.

The 28-year old Burns has represented the Aussies in 14 Tests and six ODIs. However, he has been spectacular for Queensland in the domestic circuit and will hope to play a role in England.
