Ricky Ponting has delivered a fitness update on Delhi Capitals duo Ishant Sharma and David Warner ahead of the crucial clash against Rajasthan Royals. The match is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (May 7).

Ishant Sharma has not played a game since the clash against Gujarat Titans on April 17. On the other hand, David Warner's last appearance in IPL 2024 came on April 20 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. While the fast bowler is sidelined with a back issue, the veteran batsman is out of action due to a finger injury.

David Warner suffered the blow on his finger while attempting a lap shot against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12. He missed Delhi Capital's next game, against Gujarat Titans, but played against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he has not returned to action since then.

And ahead of Delhi Capitals' next game, head coach Ricky Ponting has revealed that while Ishant Sharma is fit and available for selection, David Warner is yet to be given the green light to return to action.

"Ishant Sharma is fit and available for selection, David Warner is yet to be passed fit. Ishant bowled a lot last couple of days, will take from bowling today," Ricky Ponting said ahead of the game against Rajasthan Royals.

Ishant has featured in six of Delhi Capitals' 11 games so far this season. In those six games, he has picked up six wickets. Warner, on the other hand, has played seven games and has scored 167 runs with the help of one fifty. In his absence, Jake Fraser-McGurk has been opening the innings with Prithvi Shaw and has done a stunning job so far.

Delhi Capitals eye crucial win:

Delhi Capitals will be desperate to win the upcoming game against Rajasthan Royals to revive their playoffs chances. At present, they are in the sixth spot with five wins and six losses. In their last game, they suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders and will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Another defeat could very well end their playoffs chances. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, are all but assured of a place in the playoffs after winning eight of their ten games so far.
