Indian National Cricket team will bank on their confidence while New Zealand will look to use the home advantage in the opening fixture of the ODI series at Napier on January 23 (Wednesday). Meanwhile, both sides will clash in a five-match ODI series followed by three T20Is.

Both the teams are coming on the back of some strong performances from their recent series. While India registered their first-ever Test series and bilateral ODI series win on Australian soil, the Kiwis defeated Sri Lanka across formats. And with the ICC World Cup in sight, both the sides will aim to fix their team combination ahead of the showpiece event.

India will be without Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, who are out for disciplinary reasons, but they managed pretty well in their absence. However, they will be oozing with confidence with MS Dhoni returning to form. Moreover, they will hope that their opening pair returns to form, who had a sluggish in Australia.

On the other hand, New Zealand will mainly rely on veteran batsman Ross Taylor, who has been in tremendous form since the start of 2018. Also, the onus will be on the Kiwi bowlers to contain a world-class batting lineup to take an early lead in the series.

The wicket in McLean Park tends to favour swing bowlers, but even spinners get some purchase. The outfield does offer a good reward for shots and batsmen can score quick runs once they get their eye set in.

The weather is likely to be bright and sunny, and chances of rain are minimal. This will certainly be a piece of good news for the fans as they can enjoy a full fifty-over encounter.

Both Indian National Cricket team and New Zealand will aim to set the tone in the first game of the tour.
