Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians captain, revisits his fondest memories in the last eight years he has been with the franchise. Rohit said that watching the legendary duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting bat together in IPL 2013 is personally a big memory for him.

Ricky Ponting started the 2013 season for Mumbai Indians as a skipper and also opened with Sachin Tendulkar. But after low returns with the bat, he decided to drop himself and make a young Rohit Sharma the captain of the team. Rohit Sharma has changed the fortunes of MI, as the right-hander has led the franchise to a record four IPL titles.

Recently, Rohit Sharma has opened up about his favourite moments with Mumbai Indians. Along with several other memories, he said that watching Tendulkar and Ponting bat together is a big and important moment for him personally. The opener said it was an unreal scene as all the years before he has seen both the giants of cricket play against each other but watching them in the same was a great experience.

The 4-time IPL winning skipper named a few other memories as well, such as MI’s heist against Rajasthan in 2014 to qualify for playoffs, Lasith Malinga’s five-wicket haul, Kieron Pollard’s stunning catch to dismiss Kevon Cooper. He also fondly remembered the 2017 and 2019 IPL final.

In a video uploaded on Mumbai Indian’s YouTube channel, Rohit Sharma said, “Another big and an important memory that I personally have is of watching Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting go to bat together. It was an unreal scene to watch them bat together.”

“All these years we had only watched them bat against each other, but to watch them bat together for one team was a great experience,” Rohit Sharma added.

Currently, MI is sitting comfortably at the top of the points table with 18 points and set to play the Qualifier on Thursday. Before that game, they will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last league game on Tuesday.

However, captain Rohit Sharma has missed the last four games for them due to an injury. There are still uncertainties over his further participation in the tournament.
