Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer couldn't have the kind of impact he would've wanted in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 16-over contest between the teams is taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Shreyas Iyer, who came to bat at No.4, was undone by the brilliance of Mumbai Indians pacer Anshul Kamboj. The fast bowler castled the batter around the stumps and it made the crowd at the Eden Gardens go stunned as their skipper perished.

On the 1st ball of the 5th over, Anshul Kamboj bowled a delivery that was nibbling around. Shreyas Iyer moved across to access the leg side. It was a short-of-a-length delivery that nipped in. The batter played line but was undone by the movement of the ball.

Shreyas Iyer's leg stump was visible and the ball went to kiss the outside half of the stick and went to the boundary. It was a Steve Smith-like dismissal as the Kolkata Knight Riders batter took the long walk back to the pavilion.

Here's the video:

Shreyas Iyer, who has been going through the lean patch, yet again failed to score big for Kolkata Knight Riders. The middle-order batter scored 7 runs off 10 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 70 and managed just one four in his innings at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

After Shreyas Iyer got out, Venkatesh Iyer played a decent hand for his team. The left-hander played some glorious shots in his innings and made sure that he kept the scoring rate high after his team lost two early wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Venkatesh Iyer scored 42 runs off 21 balls and batted with a strike rate of 200. He also slammed 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. He was looking set for another fifty but Piyush Chawla removed him as Kolkata Knight Riders lost their fourth wicket at 77 runs. The onus will now be on Andre Rusell to take his team to big total.

We're doing alright, been an interesting year - Mitchell Starc on KKR's season

Mitchell Starc ahead of the game talked about Kolkata Knight Riders' season in the IPL 2024. He believes that they are well-placed in the league and talked about finishing in the top 2 in the season. He stated:

"We're doing alright, been an interesting year. We've had a stretch at home and then games away, nice to be back home now. It's important to get that second chance, you get that big break before the final, certainly spoke about it at training the other day so that we finish in the top 2.

"You certainly need a bit of luck with the ball, especially with the impact player rule and the sizes of the grounds. There's been some fantastic batting but with the ball, it could be a little bit better," he concluded.
