Rumeli Dhar Gets International Recalls After 6 Year Hiatus

The All India Women’s Selection Committee led by former Women’s Indian cricketer Hemlata Kala sprang a huge surprise by recalling Rumeli Dhar. The Bengal medium pacer has been recalled after a huge gap of 6 years for the remaining matches of the ongoing T20 series against South Africa.
Dhar will replace injured veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami. Jhulan missed the series due to a heel injury.
Dhar has been part of the Indian team in 4 Tests, 78 ODI’s and 15 T20I’s. However, her last international outing was way back in 2012 against Australia. She is seventh on the list of India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in ODIs. So far, she has taken 63 wickets.
Last International Outing
Interestingly, in what turned out to be her last couple of international outings in T20Is for India, Dhar achieved a rare feat. She opened both the bowling (with Goswami) and batting (with Punam Raut) for India. She still holds the record of most economical four-over spell by an Indian bowler in T20Is. Dhar had achieved the feat after her sensational spell of 4-2-4-2 against Sri Lanka during the 2009 Women’s World Twenty20.
Meanwhile, the Indian colts lead the current five-match series by a 2-0 margin while the rest of the three games will be played in Jo’burg, Centurion and Cape Town.
