Indian batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav has lived up to his reputation in his brief international outings so far. Suryakumar Yadav finally got a chance to wear the national colours earlier this year against England at home in the five-match T20I series. While the 31-year old is a number three batsman, he performed a finisher role in his ODI debut and is happy to bat where the management asks him to.

Suryakumar Yadav has scored a prolific amount of runs in the domestic circuit and IPL, mostly batting in the middle order. The right-handed batsman started his international career with a six and made a swashbuckling fifty to script a close win for India. But Yadav played the finisher’s role against Sri Lanka on his first ODI appearance, scoring an attractive 31 off 20 balls. It helped India chase down 263 with 80 balls and seven wickets to spare.

Suryakumar Yadav revealed enjoying the finisher’s role to the fullest as he had been doing the same the last couple of years. The 31-year old stated he batted like how he does in the nets and the passion for the game has kept him going. Yadav recalled his dad telling him not to be disheartened and expressed disappointment at his family not being able to watch him play.

“Enjoyed it completely (on playing a finisher’s role). I’ve been doing the same thing for the last two years, and just looked to bat like how I do in the nets. I think the passion for this game kept me going. My dad kept telling me to stay patient and that the opportunity would come. It was emotional to receive that cap, but disappointed that the family wasn’t here because of the covid situation,” Yadav told as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Suryakumar Yadav further stated he is ready to bowl if the captain requires him to do and has batted in every position possible. Hence, the right-handed batsman is comfortable to bat where the team management needs.

“I have been bowling as well, and am ready if the captain asks me to. I have batted at every batting position possible, and I have been playing at number three in T20s. But I am ready to bat wherever the team management wants me to,” he added.
