After registering a 10-wicket win over India, Pakistan are slated to play their second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 against New Zealand on Tuesday. Pakistan were brilliant in all three departments of the game against India on Sunday. They were outstanding on the field and with the ball in the first innings.

Shaheen Shah Afridi sent both the openers back to hut to set the tone for the win. The bowlers kept bowling at great lengths and never let India change gears. While Virat Kohli held firm at one end, wickets kept falling at the other.

After Shaheen Afridi bowled an outstanding spell in the powerplay, Shadab Khan kept the opposition guessing in the middle overs with his turn and guile as he gave away just 22 runs in his four-over spell, including the wicket of Rishabh Pant.

Haris Rauf bowled all his overs in the death overs and didn’t bowl a single bad over. His deceptive slower balls proved difficult for India to hit the big shots. The Pakistan paceman gave just 25 runs for 1 wicket in his four-over spell. India, as a result of that, could only manage 151 runs on a good batting surface of Dubai. Pakistan were just as good in the second innings as they were in the first.

Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan gave the team a dream start as the Men in Green didn’t lose a single wicket in the powerplay. The duo took a little risk and kept rotating the strikes regularly.

At the same time, they ensured they send the bad balls to the boundary rope. The duo stayed unbeaten till the very end and guided the side home in 17.5 overs. Babar Azam scored 68 runs off 52 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan amassed 79 runs off 55 balls.

New Zealand, on the other end, will be playing their first game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Tuesday. New Zealand have a quality line-up and certainly have the potential to disturb Pakistan’s momentum. They didn’t make a great start to their campaign, however, having lost both their warm-up matches.

Tim Southee proved expensive in both the games but you expect him to lead the attack with Trent Boult. Having said that, Lockie Ferguson has been bowling really well and making a great case for himself in the playing XI. As for the spin, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi are likely to make the cut.

New Zealand have a strong top-order, having got the likes of Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips. Guptill looked in great form in both the games and that is a positive sign for New Zealand. He is likely to pair up with Devon Conway for the opening slot.

Glenn Phillips’s last few innings in the shortest format don’t inspire a lot of confidence and that could give New Zealand some tension. More so, because their lower-middle order isn’t known for consistent performances.

Jimmy Neesham played a handy 18-ball 31-run knock against Australia in the warm-up fixture but will he be able to replicate a similar performance against Pakistan remains to be seen.
