The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja lavished praise on the Pakistan National Cricket Team players for their valiant efforts in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 encounter against India National Cricket Team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23.

In the high-octane India-Pakistan World Cup clash, Pakistan lost the toss and were invited to bat first. Batting first, openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were cleaned up by Arshdeep Singh early on in the innings. Then, Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed had a good 76-run partnership in 50 balls with the latter being the aggressor. Also, both batters smashed good half-centuries to help Pakistan post 159/8 on the board.

Defending the target, Pakistan bowlers performed brilliantly and reduced India to 31/4. However, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya had an exceptional 113-run partnership in 78 balls that shifted the momentum towards India. Hardik got dismissed in the final over, but the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli remained unbeaten and took India past the finish line.

After the match, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja, took to Twitter to state:

“A classic! You win some, you lose some and, as we all know, this game can be cruel and unfair. Couldn’t have given more with bat and ball. Very proud of the effort!”

At the post-match press conference, Pakistan captain Babar Azam heaped praise on Virat Kohli for batting exceptionally well under pressure.

“Whenever Pakistan-India play matches, there is always extra pressure and you have to overcome it as much as possible. This is why he [Kohli] is a big player. The pressure was on him early on but he overcame that and the way he built his innings and the partnership, according to me that changed the match.

“I’ve see him struggle on occasions but the way he has come back and played a big innings, that would have increased his confidence in a big way. Whenever you win such matches, the individual gets big confidence and the mental level goes up,” he said.

The modern-day batting great Virat Kohli smashed remarkable 82 runs off 53 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes, to bag the Player of the Match award in the nail-biting match.
