Hemang Badani, a former cricketer for India, retaliated against his Australian opponent Brad Hogg when the latter questioned the umpires’ decision to give India a no-ball in the crucial match against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2022.

In their T20 World Cup opening match on Sunday, India defeated Pakistan by a narrow margin of four wickets. The team reached their 160-run goal in exactly 20 overs, thanks in large part to the outstanding batting performance of former skipper Virat Kohli, who smashed an unbeaten 82 off just 53 balls.

India’s run chase ended with significant drama in the final over. With 13 needed off just three balls, Kohli smacked a six off Mohammad Nawaz over deep mid-wicket on a waist-high full toss. However, the umpires ruled it a no-ball and assessed it to be a doubtful free hit, confusing Pakistan captain Babar Azam and the squad.

As the ball dribbled down towards the third man, Virat and Dinesh Karthik ran three byes. However, a dispute arose following a conversation between Pakistani players, including captain Babar, and the umpire about whether the Indian team should be given the runs. Finally, the on-field umpires decided to award runs to India.

Babar appeared to want the delivery to be referred to as a “dead ball” because it struck the stumps, according to the commentators.

Brad Hogg, a former cricketer for Australia, questioned why the ball wasn’t immediately declared dead and reviewed. “Why was no ball not reviewed, then how can it not be a dead ball when Kohli was bowled on a free hit. #INDvPAK #T20worldcup22,” he said.

Responding to this, Hemang Badani said: Hey Brad, pt 1: a review can only be taken only if the batter is dismissed off a waist height full toss and not when runs are scored.

“Pt 2: the ball stays in play even if the batter is bowled off a free hit. Sry couldn’t respond yda as we Indians were busy [celebrating] the win,” Hemang Badani added.
