Former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn shared his verdict on the situation of Virat Kohli. He said that family is the most important priority and he doesn’t see any problem with batter taking time off for his personal reasons.

Virat Kohli has become a hot topic in Indian cricket ever since the England Test series started. He was all set to play the first match in Hyderabad but he pulled out of the first two games because of personal reasons.

It was expected that Virat Kohli would return for the last three games but the chances so far look bleak. Various reports have suggested that the batter has asked for the leave from the entire series against England. However, the BCCI officials have kept the window open for his return anytime in the series.

Recently AB de Villiers also spoke about Virat Kohli and revealed that batter and his wife are expecting his second child and that’s why he took a break. However, he clarified that he made a mistake by saying that and he sent the wrong information.

Dale Steyn while sharing his verdict on Virat Kohli’s situation said that nothing comes in front of the family. He recalled during IPL how he left the team because one of his dogs got sick. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he stated:

“Family is your most important priority. Sorry, that’s it. That’s the end of the story right there. I’ve got three dogs and when one of them got sick, I was out of the IPL. I was jumping on the plane out of there to come back and see my dog. So that’s my family.”

Dale Steyn pointed out that Virat Kohli has been a servant of India for many years and he sees nothing wrong in batter taking the rest because he has proved himself. He added:

“If Virat Kohli has decided to sit back home because he wants to be with his wife, if he’s going to have his second child, I don’t see any problem with that. He’s been a servant of India for many years. He’s won a World Cup; he’s captained with success. I don’t know what more a man can do to prove himself in the cricketing world.”

What matters is why you’re playing and who helped you get there – Dale Steyn on Virat Kohli

Dale Steyn further pointed out that cricket doesn’t matter in the end because players always care about why someone is playing and who helped them get there. While elaborating on the same, he explained:

“I think at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter about cricket. What matters is why you’re playing and who helped you get there. The people behind you or behind the scenes, are the ones the public doesn’t see. Your partner, your mother, your wife, your sister… those are the people that are constantly picking you up and if it means that their health is in jeopardy or something is wrong with them, you go to them and that’s the most important thing.”

The Indian squad for the last three Tests against England will be announced. It remains to be seen if BCCI will provide an official update on Virat Kohli’s situation or not.
