With Pakistan breaking their 29-year World Cup curse against the Men in Blue thanks to an undefeated 152-run stand between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, India will be eager to revenge their 10-wicket defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals.

This is a fantastic opportunity for India, especially the top order, with Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi out with a knee injury and another pacer, Mohammad Wasim, out with a back injury sustained just a few days earlier to the tournament’s start.

Wasim Jaffer picks Rohit and Rahul as his opening batsmen:

Wasim Jaffer suggested one crucial change to India’s playing XI, and it was in the middle order, where the nation has an abundance of options. The batsman, who has won the Ranji Trophy on many occasions, selected batting legend, Virat Kohli, at number three, and skipper Rohit Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul as the openers.

As for his bowling lineup, it included Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal, and yorker specialist Arshdeep Singh. Suryakumar Yadav, star all-rounders Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja made up the middle order.

In the starting XI, neither senior player Ravichandran Ashwin nor up-and-coming bowler Avesh Khan was selected. Rishabh Pant must bat at place number five if allowed to bat, said Wasim Jaffer in addition to this.
