Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli’s former coach, blasted Team India’s hitters for their utterly dismal showing in the opening One-Day International against Bangladesh on Sunday, December 4.

The Men in Blue batters, in Sharma’s opinion, didn’t appear to have any strategies in place, which caused the innings to proceed aimlessly.

In the first ODI, Team India lost to Bangladesh by one wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The visitors, who were put in to bat after losing the toss, were bowled out for 186 in 41.2 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38*), a great counterattacker, helped Bangladesh recover from 136/9 to chase down the total.

Rajkumar Sharma informed India News on Team India’s dismal batting performance against Bangladesh on Sunday: “India’s batting was clueless. There was no role clarity or planning over how they were going to go about things. They didn’t seem to know what they wanted to achieve in the powerplay.”

“India had to pay a price for the decision”: Rajkumar Sharma

With Rishabh Pant being released from the ODI squad, India went in with KL Rahul as a makeshift keeper, even though Ishan Kishan is also part of the traveling contingent. Sharma disagreed with the ploy to make Rahul keep wickets and stated:

“By fielding Rahul as a substitute wicketkeeper, Team India took a major risk, especially because they had regular keepers in the squad who are good stroke-makers.” It was extremely unexpected” Rajkumar Sharma said.

“Because he is the vice-captain, the management sought to include him in the team. That’s why I believe Pant was overlooked. “India has to pay a cost for its decision,” Rajkumar Sharma remarked.
In the 43rd over of Bangladesh’s innings, with the batter on 15, Rahul lost Miraz’s catch. As Miraz went on to lead the hosts beyond the winning line, the let-off turned out to be quite expensive.
