IND vs IRE: 5 Players Who Can Return To India's T20I Side vs Ireland

The IND vs IRE series will be a two-matchT20I series to be played after India ends its series against England. Though it is just a two-match series still, it presents a huge opportunity for many players fighting to get into the Indian T20 World cup squad. The two T20Is will be played on July 26 and 28 at The Village ground in Dublin. 

The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been rested for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. KL Rahul picked up a last-minute injury to be ruled out of the series. This is the third consecutive T20I series that Rahul has missed due to an injury. In this article, we take a look at five players who can make a comeback to the Indian side for the two-match IND vs IRE series.

IND vs IRE: 5 Players Who Can Return To India’s T20I Side vs Ireland

Virat Kohli 

Kohli has often opted to get himself out of T20Is in recent times. He has been playing ODI and Test cricket for India consistently. The former Indian skipper played a full season of the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and was rested for the South Africa series. He has not played too much international T20 cricket this year. With this year being the year of the T20 World Cup, Kohli should look to come back and play these two games against Ireland.

Rohit Sharma 

The Indian skipper has also been rested from the South Africa series. He will be one of the premier batters heading into the T20 World Cup and thus should play the two games against Ireland. Rohit started the aggressive batting intent in the home series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. He has also won 11 games on the trot as India’s T20I skipper. 

Sanju Samson 

Sanju Samson to much debate was left out of India’s T20I squad that was announced for the South Africa series. He scored 458 runs in 17 games leading the Rajasthan Royals to the final. Samson is one of the most promising young batsmen in Indian cricket at the moment. He has to be given more opportunity is something that has been debated repeatedly.

KL Rahul 

Rahul is ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa with a groin injury. It was almost a last-minute injury that he picked up. Rahul after Rohit and Kohli played consistently across formats for India at the moment. Given that he is a guaranteed selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad, he should get a bit of match-practice heading into the mega event.

Shikhar Dhawan 

Shikhar Dhawan can be tried out for the two-match T20I series against Ireland. The veteran Indian batsmen is fresh off a good IPL season with Punjab Kings scoring 460 runs in the season. Rahul Dravid said that Dhawan was dropped from the series against South Africa as India wanted a young batsman to open the innings in Rohit’s absence. However, this short series can be the opportunity that he needs.
