NZ vs IND: India’s Predicted Playing XI Against New Zealand, India Tour Of New Zealand 2022, 2nd ODI

India take on New Zealand in the second ODI in Hamilton on Sunday, November 27. After winning the T20I series, the Men in Blue were handed a defeat in the first ODI as the Kiwis won the game by seven wickets. The Men in Blue needs to win this game to keep the series alive A loss in this game will see them lose the ODI series. 

India last played in New Zealand in 2020. The Men in Blue won the T20I series 5-0. However, the Kiwis came back to win the ODI (3-0) and Test (2-0) series. This was India’s fifth consecutive defeat against the Kiwis in the ODI format.

Despite doing most things correctly in the first ODI, India lost out to the Kiwis who were better than their opponents in every department of the game. Heading into the second ODI, Team India needs to ensure that they perform similarly with the bat and look to come back with a better bowling performance. 

It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to their playing XI. In this article, we take a look at India’s predicted playing XI for the second ODI against the Kiwis.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill scored a 50 in the first ODI against the Kiwis and added a 124-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan. Gill has scored 580 runs in ODI cricket this year in 10 games including a century and four fifties averaging 72.50.

Shikhar Dhawan (C)

The Indian skipper scored 72 off 77 balls in the first ODI and gave a good start to the team. He looked set to get his 18th ODI ton but missed out, unfortunately. In 17 ODIs in 2022, he scored 639 runs with six fifties at an average of 42.60. 

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer will slot in at three. He scored 80 off 76 balls and anchored the Indian innings over 300. This year he has scored 566 runs in 12 ODIs averaging one hundred and six fifties. Since 2019, he has scored over 1000 runs in the format.

Suryakumar Yadav

SKY scored just four of three balls and was dismissed by Tim Southee. He has scored over 1000 runs in T20Is this year. In ODIs this year, he has scored 220 runs in 11 games at an average of 24.44. 

Rishabh Pant (WK)

Pant scored 15 off 23 balls in the first ODI. He has struggled throughout the series so far. He faced a lot of flak as well for the opportunities he did not take in the series. In 10 ODIS this year, he has scored over 300 runs with a best of 125 against England. 

Sanju Samson

Samson scored a crucial 36 off 38 balls batting at number six for India in the first ODI. Experts said that he should have batted above in the order in the first game. In 10 matches this year, Sanju has scored 284 runs at an average of 71.00. 

Washington Sundar

Sundar played a cameo of 37 off 16 balls that helped India score over 300 runs in the first ODI. However, he bowled a wicketless spell with the ball in the second ODI. He will be crucial in the second ODI as well. 

Shardul Thakur / Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar should replace Shardul Thakur in the second ODI. Shardul went for 63 runs off his 9 overs and picked up just one wicket. Chahar can chip in with the bat as well. 

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep went for 68 runs in his debut ODI game for India. He should be played all three games in the series and been allowed to bowl in tough conditions. That will only improve his skills as a bowler.

Umran Malik

Malik too should be given all three games. He made his debut in the first ODI and went for 66 runs and picked up two wickets. He will need to adapt to the conditions quickly and learn to control his speed. 

Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal will be the specialist spinner in the playing XI. He bowled a wicketless spell in the first ODI going for 67 runs. In 12 ODIs this year, the leggie has picked up 21 wickets averaging 27.10.
