GT vs LSG: He Seemed To Be Preoccupied, Maybe He Was Not Getting The 11 That He Wanted – Sunil Gavaskar On KL Rahul's Stint As Punjab Kings Captain

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, while talking about the stint of KL Rahul as Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper, said that he seemed to be preoccupied while leading the side in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former Punjab Kings skipper Rahul himself decided not to get retained by the franchise and he was picked by the new Lucknow-based franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction and was handed over the captaincy.

The 4th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be played between Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) and KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 28.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar said that leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League will be a big challenge for Rahul.

“When he was the captain of Punjab Kings, he seemed to be preoccupied, maybe he was not getting the 11 that he wanted.

“The new franchise Lucknow Super Giants is going to be a different challenge for KL and if he can bat the way he did in previous seasons and take the team to the knockouts if not actually the finals, then he would have taken a big step forward as far as his own cricketing career is concerned,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports’ show ‘Gameplan’.

Batting legend Gavaskar also said that the openers of Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, will provide amazing starts to the team in the cash-rich league.

“The best part about Quinton de Kock is the fact that he also has captaincy experience. He has been a captain of South Africa and knows all formats of the game. He knows what team building is all about because we are talking about a different team now. He will be very keen to contribute towards the team-building process,” said Gavaskar.

“KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s right-hand and the left-hand combination makes a devastating opening pair and they can get the team off to a flying start,” he further stated.
