GT vs RR: To Be Honest, I Was A Little Nervous- David Miller On A Close Run-Chase Victory Over RR In The IPL 2022 Qualifier 1

Gujarat Titans batsman David Miller discussed his strategy during the 189-run chase with skipper Hardik Pandya in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

With an undefeated 68 off 38 deliveries, the Proteas star was the main attraction, leading the new team to the final.

GT was 85-3 at the Eden Gardens when they batted in the tenth over. After scoring 10 runs on his first 14 pitches, the left-handed batsman took a bit to find his stride. He ended up making up for his sluggish start by securing GT’s qualifying with three straight sixes off Prasidh Krishna in the penultimate over.
In a post-match interview with Shubman Gill, Miller said that he was nervous throughout the run chase:

“To be honest, I was just a little nervous. However, Hardik insisted on playing good cricket smashes and striking the space. He wasn’t sprinting too quickly, as you can see, but I like to make runs between the wickets. However, because the outfield was fast, striking the gaps was the greatest option.”

Miller praised his teammates’ efforts en route to the championship, saying: “To be honest, it’s an incredible feeling; I’ve been playing IPL for 12 years and this is my second time qualifying.”

“To be honest, it doesn’t happen often, but being in the final feels unique, and leading the boys over the finish line felt cool. When you consider all of the individual contributions, this is a fantastic team effort.”

The Proteas batsman will be playing in his first IPL final since 2014, whereas Gill will be appearing in his second straight final. On May 29, GT will compete in the final against the winner of Qualifier 2. (Sunday).
