Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is one of the teams that have a fair chance to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Even though they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (5th May), they still are favourites to make it into the top 4.

Lucknow Super Giants didn't have a great outing in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. They were dominated by the Shreyas Iyer-led side in all three departments of the game and bagged a massive 98-run loss at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Lucknow Super Giants first didn't have a great outing with the ball. Their bowlers were taken to cleaners and they ended up conceding 235 runs, which was highest ever total at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in the history of the T20s.

Naveen-ul-Haq picked three wickets with the ball and gave away 49 runs. Apart from Ravi Bishnoi, who returned with figures of 1/34, every other bowler had an economy of over 12, which speaks about poor bowling performance.

With the bat, Lucknow Super Giants didn't have a great start as they lost Arshin Kulkarni early and after that, they were playing the catching game. Skipper KL Rahul (25) and Marcus Stoinis (36) tried to up the ante but they perished after starting.

After that Kolkata Knight Riders kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Nicholas Pooran (10), Ayush Badoni (15) and Ashton Turner (16) lost their wickets as Lucknow Super Giants suffered a massive 98-run loss in what was their last game at their home ground.

Lucknow Super Giants Qualification Scenario for IPL 2024 Playoffs

The loss against Kolkata Knight Riders was the 5th loss for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, even after the loss they are at the 5th position on the points table. The KL Rahul-led side has 6 wins under their belt with 12 points. But after their 98-run loss, their NRR dropped to -0.371.

However, Lucknow Super Giants are still in contention for the playoffs. If they manage to win their remaining three games, they will go to 18 points, which will assure them Qualification for the playoffs of the league and might even see them seal the top spot.

Even if they lose one game out of their remaining three games, they still be favourites to qualify with 16 points. They cannot afford to lose two out of their remaining three games as it might cost them a spot. Losing two and winning one takes them to 14, where others can reach too and they might miss out because of negative NRR. Therefore their qualification for the IPL 2024 playoffs is in their own hands. If they manage to do that, it will be for the third consecutive time that they will make it into the business end of the tournament.
