IPL 2022: Personally, I Love To Bat At No.3 And Feel It's The Place For Me – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Captain Shreyas Iyer

Star Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who is set to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, has said that he loves to bat at No.3 and feels “it’s the place for” him.

Shreyas Iyer, who had captained Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 12.25 crore at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru and was named as a skipper after the departure of Eoin Morgan.

While talking about his batting the KKR captain said that he can play the role of the anchor as well the power-hitter for his team. Shreyas Iyer added that even though he loves to bat at No.3 he is flexible enough to bat at any position the Kolkata Knight Riders want him to bat. Shreyas Iyer asserted:

“You can’t basically portray yourself as an anchor. It can differ, On a given day, I can be the power hitter and on another, play an anchor role. The roles can change according to situations. You can’t rely on one particular player to anchor the innings. If it’s your day, you need to go all out and see to it that you win for the team. Basically, the responsibility has to be taken by all the players in the team.”

“Personally, I love to bat at No.3 and feel it’s the place for me since I’ve been batting at that position for very long. Otherwise, I’m flexible and happy to bat wherever my team needs me. I’m comfortable with that and come what may I’m ready to explore.”

They’ve been aggressive and fearless as a team – Shreyas Iyer on KKR

Shreyas Iyer while talking about the Kolkata Knight Riders said that they have been aggressive and fearless. He added that when he leads KKR he wants all the players to express themselves as much as possible. He elaborated:

“From outside when I’ve played against KKR, they’ve been aggressive and fearless as a team,” said Shreyas to kkr.in.

 “Right from ball one, they like to throw the punch and put you on the back foot. You need to have that mindset and I as a batsman too have that same mindset. When I lead as a captain, I want the same kind of intensity in my players as well. I want us to go out there, express ourselves as much as possible, not have many regrets when we get out there and whatever you do you do it for the team and put yourself second. That’s the mindset I like to focus on as a captain.”

Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign on March 26 and they will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium.
