The 31-year old kept his base price at an expensive INR 2 crores. As soon as his name came up, Kings XI Punjab were the first to put their hands up followed by Delhi Capitals. It was only these two franchises that went for the Victorian right-handed batsman. Kings XI Punjab had INR 42.9 crores in their purse. On the other hand, Delhi were left with approximately INR 26 crores.

Kings XI Punjab came out victorious.

Both the franchises viciously battled for Glenn Maxwell. When the bid escalated to an amount of INR 10.75 crores, that is when Delhi Capitals bowed out. Within minutes, Maxwell’s fate was sealed. He piled on a mammoth 552 runs in the 2014 season for Punjab. The 31-year old pulled out of the previous season of the cash-rich league and had endured a torrid season in 2018 for Delhi Daredevils.

Maxwell recently announced his return to competitive cricket, having taken a break to focus on his mental health two months ago. Before taking a sabbatical, the Victorian scored a breezy inning of 62 against Sri Lanka in the opening T20 of the Australian summer. He is gearing himself to captain the Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Big Bash League who will get their campaign underway against the Brisbane Heat.

Glenn Maxwell reacts in the form of expressing his delightfulness in being back:

Kings XI Punjab would hope the T20 superstar lives up to the price tag, having represented the franchise already once. In addition to this, the Victorian conveyed his happiness to be back to where he once belonged. Maxwell stayed with Punjab from 2014-2017. However, he prospered only during the 2014 season where his team managed to make it to the finals. Since then, he hasn’t found his stride, often throwing away his wickets. Having come back from a short break, Maxwell should get in the groove and take the tournament by storm.

Glenn Maxwell says it feels good to be back.
