Former Australia pacer Brett Lee feels that Hardik Pandya bowling the final over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was not the right decision. Hardik Pandya took the responsibility to deliver the final over vs CSK  in IPL 2024 match 29 but was slammed for 26 runs.

The MI skipper was hit for a four off the first ball but made a comeback by dismissing Daryl Mitchell. However, the next batter on the crease MS Dhoni smacked three sixes off his next three balls. Dhoni sneaked two runs off the final ball to add an unbeaten 20 off his 4 balls in his classic cameo.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fantastic 19th over to give just 7 runs. CSK were railing at 180-3 with one more over to go and expected to end with below 200 in 1st innings. However, Hardik Pandya's 26-run expensive final over drove CSK's scoreboard to a mountainous 206-4.

Hardik Pandya made a wrong call: Brett Lee

Speaking about Hardik Pandya's final over on Jio Cinema, former Australia pacer and active commentator Brett Lee said the MI skipper made a wrong call of bowling the final over.

“If he came in and bowled two bit of yorkers, contained him for eight runs, made people wicket, that's a great cap scene. So I could see that ownership of him trying to look after his bowler at the other end, mud wall, saying, well, I don't want to put him under any more pressure", Lee said.

“Going for twelve and a half an over, I'll do it by myself. But it turned out it wasn't the right call. And he has to live by that. Has to live by that,” the 47-year-old further added.

Brett Lee, who represented Australia from 1999 to 2012, also hailed Rohit Sharma for his brilliant century in the MI vs CSK match. He also noted that Sharma could not do everything on his own. Notably, no other MI batter could reach a half-century in the match to support Sharma during the gigantic chase.

"Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred. The fact that he went out there, scored at a good clip too. I liked it when he scored his hundred, he didn't even raise his bat. For me, it shows that the win means more than his personal milestone".

"You know, he played with real intent right from ball one. He played shots all around the ground, but then the power and the finesse came into play. 105 not out of 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes, just unfortunately, you can't do everything on your own," the 47-year-old added.

Hardik Pandya leaked 43 runs in 3 overs

Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 105 off 63 as MI could only reach 186-6 till the final over, losing by 20 runs. Hardik Pandya emerged too costly despite his 2 wickets. The right-arm pacer gave away 43 runs off his 3 overs, bowling at a miserable economy of 14.30.

Asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings piled up 206-4 in 1st innings with incredible half-centuries by Shivam Dube (66*) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (69). Matheesha Pathirana won the POTM for his 4-wicket haul in the match.
