We were almost embarrassed in the first half: Ricky Ponting

Speaking to reporters at the DC vs KKR post-match press conference, DC Head Coach Ricky Ponting spoke about his team’s debacle in the game. Ponting said his team was embarrassed in the first half of the match.

“It’s hard to assess right now. We were almost embarrassed in the first half of the game. We conceded a lot of runs, bowled 17 wides, it took us two hours bowl 20 overs, meaning the guys bowling the last two over got to bowl with only two fielders outside the circle”.

Giving 90 runs in powerplay not ideal phase: Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting also reckoned conceding 90 runs in the powerplay overs was not an ideal phase for the Delhi Capitals. The 49-year-old also praised KKR batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who played a spectacular knock at No. 3 for Kolkata.

“That start didn’t help. They got off to a flying start at the powerplay. They were maybe 90 at the end of 6 overs. So that phase is not ideal. If that happens at the start of the game, then you’re always fighting to get back into the game”.

“KKR were relentless right from the start. The youngster that came to bat at number 3 (Angkrish Raghuvanshi) I thought he played really well. It allowed Russell and those guys to come in and play like they always play. They had wickets in hand so they could keep going hard”, the Aussie batting legend further added.

KKR crushed Delhi Capitals by 106 runs.

Talking about DC vs KKR clash, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat first. With an 85-run knock by opener Sunil Narine, KKR had a fabulous start reaching 88 runs in the first 6 overs. Later, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54 off 27), Andre Russell (41 off 19), and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) helped the team to post their highest-ever total in IPL history.

Anrich Nortje was the most successful DC bowler with 3 wickets. However, he was also highly expensive at 14.80 economy. During the chase, Delhi were bowled out for 166-10, with Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs hitting half-centuries. Eventually, DC lost by 106 runs.
