IND vs SA: Ravi Shastri Feels India Might Play Umran Malik “On Current Form” Against South Africa

Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri believes that there is a possibility of Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik getting games against South Africa National Cricket Team in the upcoming five-match T20I series.

Umran Malik was highly impressive with his express pace bowling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, as a result, the 22-year-old Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer got his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series against the Temba Bavuma-led side.

India’s squad for South Africa was announced on Sunday evening and there were a few major surprises as Dinesh Karthik got his India recall while Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh got their maiden India call-ups after a brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will begin on June 9 in Delhi and the remaining games will be held in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bengaluru respectively.

Speaking about Malik’s inclusion in the Indian squad, Shastri said that the pacer’s association with India National Cricket Team is an absolutely right thing. He added that India might unleash him against South Africa if the express pacer bowls well in the nets and does the right things.

“I think the association with the Indian team is absolute right. He can be groomed properly. On current form, they might just play him.

“If he is bowling well in the nets and doing the right things, they might unleash him at the earliest against South Africa,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo show ‘T20 Time Out’.

Meanwhile, Umran Malik was able to bag 22 wickets in 14 games in the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

He picked his wickets at an average of 20.18, an economy of 9.03 and a strike rate of 13.40, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.
