India vs South Africa; India Playing 11 vs South Africa (Predicted), 3rd T20I: South Africa tour of India 2022. India will lock horns with South Africa in the third T20I on Tuesday (October 4) at Holkar Stadium, Indore. India have already sealed the series 2-0 by winning the 1st T20I by 8 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 16 runs.

David Miller’s valiant unbeaten 106 went in vain as the Rohit Sharma-led side defended 237. India defeated South Africa in a T20 bilateral series for the first time on home soil. Now India will be eying a whitewash while the visitors would be aiming for a consolation win.

India had won this ongoing series of three T20I matches with 2-0 and now a have golden chance to have a clean sweep against South Africa. The first T20I game was low scoring and the second T20I match was high scoring where more than 200 runs were scored in each innings. The good news for India is that their key batters are scoring runs which is a good sign for the side and they will get some confidence right before the 2022 T20I World Cup.

India won the second T20 match against South Africa with a margin of 16 runs. The batting order of India was on fire in this match. They put a total of 237 runs on the board in 20 overs. Almost all batters from their side put some runs on the board. In-form Suryakumar Yadav proved the most successful batter from their side who scored 61 runs on just 22 balls with a strike rate of 277. He smashed five boundaries and the same huge sixes during his inning.

Opener and MOM KL Rahul also was outstanding with the bat and scored 57 runs on 28 balls with the help of five boundaries and four huge sixes. Virat Kohli was unlucky as he could not complete his fifty and remained not out after scoring 49 runs. He faced 28 balls and smashed seven boundaries and one huge six. The skipper Rohit Sharma scored 43 runs.

The bowling unit of India was outstanding in the first match where they restricted Proteas to 109/9 but they failed to give the best performance in the second T20I match and leaked 221 runs while defending the target of 238 runs.

Deepak Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Harshal Patel were the leading bowlers of India in the previous match. Arshdeep Singh was the highest wicket-taker in this match too but he leaked a lot of runs. He picked two wickets while he was charged for 62 runs in four overs.

Axar Patel was the other bowler who had a wicket to his name but he also leaked a lot of runs. He picked one wicket while he was charged for 53 runs in four overs. Harshal Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Deepak Chahar were the bowlers who failed to pick any wicket. Deepak Chahar was the most economical bowler who leaked just 24 runs in four overs.

India may go unchanged in the inconsequential T20I unless they want to try out the likes of batter Shreyas Iyer, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed or pacers Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav.

2nd T20I:- India 237 for 3 (Suryakumar 61, Rahul 57, Kohli 49*, Maharaj 2-23) beat South Africa 221 for 3 (Miller 106*, de Kock 69*, Arshdeep 2-62) by 16 runs

Rohit Sharma is the skipper of India in the T20I series against South Africa and will lead the team in the 3rd T20I unless he’s rested. He will be open in the match. He would want to get back to scoring runs after being dismissed without scoring in the 1st T20I against Proteas. He played only 2 balls before edging one to Quinton de Kock off Kagiso Rabada. In the 2nd T20I, he scored a 37 ball 43 which included 7 fours and a six at a strike rate of 116.22, before being a victim of Keshav Maharaj.

With Virat Kohli reportedly set to be rested from the dead rubber, the No. 3 spot opens up. Shreyas Iyer, who is among the reserves in India’s squad for the 2022 T20I World Cup, would love to be given an opportunity to get some match practice under his belt. Shreyas Iyer last played in the West Indies tour where he scored 98 runs averaging 24.5 in 4 T20Is including a 64 run knock.

Suryakumar Yadav might be a middle-order batsman for India in the 2nd T20I match against Proteas. He continued his stellar form in the 1st T20I against Proteas, scoring an unbeaten 50 off 33 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes.

He scored yet another fifty in the 2nd T20I before being run out, scoring 61 off only 22 balls which included 5 fours and as many sixes at an unbelievable strike rate of 277.27. He is the highest run-getter in this series with 111 runs.

Axar Patel might be another all-rounder for the Indian team in the 3rd T20I against Proteas. In the 1st T20I against Proteas, he returned with figures of 1/16 in 4 overs. In the 2nd T20I against Proteas, he picked Aiden Markram’s wicket (bowled) but conceded 53 runs in 4 overs at an economy rate of 13.2.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finally got a game after a while in the 1st T20I against Proteas in Hardik Pandya’s absence. He was economical but was wicketless returning with figures of 4-1-8-0 in the 1st T20I. In the 2nd T20I, he was wicketless but conceded 37 runs in 4 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin was retained for the New Zealand home series after the conclusion of the 2021 T20I World Cup (where he returned to the T20I setup after 4 years) and was dropped later. And after a gap of eight months, he was brought back for the 5-match T20Is against hosts West Indies, where he picked 3 scalps in as many games.  He also picked 2 scalps in 2 Asia Cup 2022 games.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh, the young Indian pacer became one of the major highlights of Asia Cup 2022, for both right and wrong reasons. The Punjab bowler made his international debut in the T20I against England this year.

He was MOM against Proteas in the 1st T20I, returning with figures of 3/32 which included wickets of Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw, and David Miller. All were bowled. In the 2nd T20I, he picked 2 scalps but conceded 62 runs at an economy rate of 15.5 in 4 overs. Temba Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw again departed without scoring as the duo offered catches off Arshdeep Singh.

During the Asia Cup Super 4 clash against Pakistan, Arshdeep Singh dropped a relatively easy catch on Asif Ali, following which he had to face a lot of flak on social media. India lost to Pakistan as Arshdeep Singh failed to defend seven runs in the last over. He was rested for the Australia series. Umesh Yadav is another option to replace him if he’s injured.

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel returned with figures of 2/26 in 4 overs in the 1st T20I against Proteas. He picked the scalps of Aiden Markram (25) and Keshav Maharaj (41) as he broke crucial partnerships. Harshal Patel was wicketless in the 2nd T20I, returning with figures of 0/45 bowling his full quota of 4 overs.

Upon his return from an injury suffered before Asia Cup 2022, Harshal Patel played 3 T20Is against Australia in the series and picked 1 wicket only. Moreover, he also conceded a lot of runs.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar picked the crucial scalps of Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma (0) and big hitter Tristan Stubbs (0) in the 1st T20I against Proteas, returning with figures of 2/24 in 4 overs. He will have added responsibility on his shoulders particularly with Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out of the series.

Deepak Chahar was the most economical Indian bowler in the 2nd T20I against Proteas but failed to pick up a wicket, returning with figures of 0/24 in 4 overs. He would want to be back among wickets.

Mohammed Siraj

Though Arshdeep Singh has done very well since coming into the Indian team, it is important for the team to look at Mohammed Siraj who could be in line to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
