Suryakumar Yadav ended as the highest run-getter for India in the T20I series against West Indies. He scored 107 runs from three games as India completed a whitewash to top the ICC 20I rankings. He scored his fourth T20I fifty in the third and final game to set up the win for his side.

In the process, Suryakumar Yadav has strengthened the case for his selection in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Surya played shots all across the ground as he showcased his batting skills. He hit just one four and as many seven sixes as he maintained a strike rate of 209.68 during his knock.

His innings left former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja very impressed. He was impressed by his array of strokes as he figured out how he played those shots. Surya walked into bat at the halfway mark with India four wickets down. He then played a counter-attacking knock to help India post 184/5 in their 20 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav Is Not Using Power But Finding Other Ways To Score: Ajay Jadeja

“How often can you pick an innings, even in the T20 format, when one has hit more sixes than fours in his innings. I don’t know how to explain that… when he hits that, it’s not power.

“He’s not using power but finding other ways. With Suryakumar, the myth that one should be powerful or very strong to play this format goes away.

“He is showing that even if you don’t have power, you have different kinds of skills to understand the situation of the game… I think he maximized all those today,” Jadeja told Cricbuzz.

Jadeja also said that the right-hander used timing more than the power to execute his shots and did well to keep up the pace of his innings.

“From all those sixes that he hit, I can only think of one against Walsh when he used his power. The rest was all about timing. He did a fabulous job to keep up the pace as well,” he further added.

India will now play a T20I and a Test series against Sri Lanka at home with the series beginning from February 24 in Lucknow.
