Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the fifth fastest Indian player to take 100 wickets in the ODI format. He achieved the feat during the first ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad.

Chahal was brought into the attack early on and he struck in his very first over to dismiss Nicholas Pooran. He bowled Windies skipper, Kieron Pollard, off the very next delivery to put India on top and help himself to the milestone.

Mohammed Shami holds the record as he took 100 wickets in 56 matches, followed by Jasprit Bumrah, who took 57 matches. Chahal’s partner-in-crime, Kuldeep Yadav reached the milestone in 58 games and Irfan Pathan did it in 59 matches.

Chahal is fifth on the list having taken 60 games to get there. Although the series against South Africa went poorly, Chahal managed to turn it around in familiar conditions.

“Didn’t feel like eating anything that night” – Yuzvendra Chahal on T20 World Cup snub

Chahal spoke on the RCB podcast, revealing that he was going through a tough phase when he was excluded from the T20 World Cup last year. He stated that it hurt as he hadn’t been dropped previously in the last 4-5 years.

The team was supposed to be announced at 9:30 and then it got delayed by a bit. I swear I did not know that my name wouldn’t come. When the list came, I did not say anything to anyone for a few minutes.”

My wife was asking me about the announcement and I sent her the screenshot. The dinner had arrived, but didn’t feel like eating anything that night. Felt very low as I wasn’t dropped even once for five years,” Chahal stated.
