5. Poor Selection Calls

Rahul David has made some poor selection calls that have resulted in poor outcomes for the team. For instance, Rahul Dravid opted to pick Avesh Khan for the Asia Cup 2022 squad. However, the decision turned out to be wrong as the Indian pacer failed to perform well in the initial games itself.

Rahul Dravid also benched Yuzvendra Chahal in all games during ICC T20 World Cup 2022, a decision that was criticized by many. Many similar decisions have affected the team’s performance in the past.

Under Rahul Dravid, India came up with a poor show in two crucial tournaments in 2022- Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022. In Asia Cup 2022, India was expected to lift the trophy but the team even failed to reach the final, losing 2 crucial matches in the super four round.

Later, India was expected to excel in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 being the no.1 T20I side in the ICC rankings. However, India faced a humiliating loss in the final semi-final by 10 wickets.

Rahul Dravid has also brought much confusion in the batting slot under his leadership. For instance, Rishabh Pant was picked as an opener in some games this year. Deepak Hooda was also played at the no.3 slot in one match.

Suryakumar Yadav has batted at both no.3 and no.4 batting slots in recent times. Hardik Pandya has batted at the lower order and also batted in middle-order in some games this year. Hence, under Rahul Dravid’s tenure, there has been some confusion in the batting order that has surely affected the team’s performance.

2. Loss Against Bangladesh

India’s recent loss against Bangladesh can be taken as a trigger point over Rahul Dravid’s position as head coach. In terms of ICC rankings, India is a far more powerful team than Bangladesh in ODIs.

India also had many key players in the squad during the ODI series against Bangladesh. Still, India faced a 2-1 loss in the series after losing the first two games. The ODI series against Bangladesh is a big black spot on India’s performance in 2022. This put questions on Rahul Dravid’s role as India’s head coach.

Rahul Dravid has not managed to develop a strong bowling attack under his management as Ravi Shastri managed to keep during his tenure. Under Ravi Shastri, Indian bowlers dominated on foreign soil and bagged crucial victories.

However, that has changed under Dravid’s tenure. For instance, India lost two crucial games during Asia Cup 2022 while defending a good total on the board. They also failed to pick a single wicket while defending a good total against England in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. Hence, India’s bowling attack has been affected under Dravid.
