Former Pakistan National Cricket Team player and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja, has come up with a massive remark on Babar Azam, saying that the Men In Green skipper makes the headlines even after he fails to perform with the bat and registers a duck.

Babar Azam had a terrible outing in the first ODI of the three-match series against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team as he was trapped LBW by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the 2nd over itself after facing 3 balls for 0.

Pakistan were bowled out for 201 in the match after the Afghanistan spin trio of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi dominated with the ball. Imam-ul-Haq was the only Pakistan batter who looked good in the middle as he scored 61 runs while Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed chipped in with crucial runs.

Meanwhile, Ramiz Raja said on his YouTube channel that Pakistan are heavily dependent on Babar to perform across all three formats of the game.

“Pakistan team is heavily reliant on Babar Azam, be it Test cricket, ODIs or T20Is. He makes the headlines even when he is dismissed for a duck,” Raja said on his YouTube channel.

Pakistan is facing issues against spin bowling – Ramiz Raja

Raja further said that the Pakistan batters have been struggling against the spinners and they need to address this issue as the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in sub-continent conditions.

“Pakistan is facing issues against spin bowling and this is something they need to fix ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup because they will be played in similar conditions,” he said.

“If we don’t resolve this issue, we will find it really hard to progress in a tournament. It seemed as if the Pakistan batters were like a rabbit that freezes when in front of a car’s headlights,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Pakistan comfortably defended their score in the first ODI against Afghanistan as the pacers were breathing fire. Haris Rauf ran through the batting line-up and bagged a 5-wicket haul to bundle out the opposition for 59. Shaheen Afridi got two wickets while Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan picked one each.
