Just IN: KL Rahul, Axar Patel Injured & Ruled Out Of T20I Series vs West Indies, BCCI Announces Replacement

Indian white-ball vice-captain KL Rahul and spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel have been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20 International series against West Indies National Cricket Team.

India have already sealed the ODI series against West Indies after winning the first two games back-to-back in a dominant style. Rohit Sharma and co. won the first ODI by 6 wickets and the second ODI by 44 runs.

Meanwhile, the T20I series will be played on February 16, February 18 and February 20 and all the matches of the three-match T20I series will be played at the same venue, which is Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

“Vice-captain KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel have been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies to be played in Kolkata from 16th February 2022,” BCCI stated.

Real Reason Behind KL Rahul, Axar Patel Getting Ruled Out Of The T20I Series

In an official statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, February 11, it was stated that the white-ball vice-captain suffered a left hamstring strain during the 2nd ODI against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, which is the reason behind him missing the third ODI and the T20I series as well. Also, Axar Patel is in the final stage of his rehabilitation.

“Rahul sustained an upper left hamstring strain during fielding in the 2nd ODI on 9th February 2022 while Axar has resumed the final stage of his rehabilitation after recently recovering from Covid-19. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injury,” BCCI stated.

Meanwhile, young opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as Rahul’s replacement and Deepak Hooda will replace Axar Patel in the squad.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda as replacements,” BCCI said in an official statement.
