Former fast bowler Mohammad Amir may make a dramatic comeback to international cricket, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Najam Sethi, days after being permitted to practise at the National High-Performance Centre.

In 2020, the former Pakistan fast bowler announced his retirement from international cricket. Before the ace bowler declared his retirement from international cricket, Amir publicly stated that the team administration had “mentally tortured” him.

Najam Sethi Having No Issue With Mohammad Amir’s Comeback

Before his retirement from international cricket, Amir was passed over for a central contract on the PCB’s list. Amir, who will be playing for Sylhet Strikers in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2023, was the subject of a remarkable comment made by PCB head Sethi to the media on Monday at a press conference in Lahore.

The PCB president declared that he has always been vehemently opposed to match-fixing. He yet maintains that Amir is qualified to return to international cricket. Amir may come back to international cricket with one stipulation, according to the PCB chairman.

“Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty,” Sethi said. Sethi, the head of the PCB, has before attacked Ramiz Raja, a former cricketer for Pakistan.

“Mohammad Amir thinks he is not dealt fairly by the previous regime of PCB, including selection committee and chairman Ramiz Raja. Ramiz Raja thinks whoever has committed corruption in cricket should never be allowed to play for Pakistan again. This is not my view! I believe someone who has paid the penalty should be allowed to make a comeback for Pakistan,” Sethi had said.

The head of the PCB had also stated that he would not prevent Amir from making himself accessible to play for the team coached by Babar Azam. Amir, who turns 31 in April of this year, has represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20 Internationals. In 2009, Amir made his international debut at the Kennington Oval against England.
