New Zealand and Pakistan go head to head in the tri-series final in Christchurch on October 14, Friday. Both teams have won three games each and are set to face off in the final. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have lost all four games to put an end to their miserable campaign ahead of the T20 World Cup.

New Zealand lost an ODI series against Australia heading into this T20I series. Pakistan also lost a bilateral T20I series against England at home. They lost the series 4-3 after leading the series 3-2 at one point. The series loss has made former Pakistan cricketers criticise the team heading into the mega event in Australia.

“This series was vital for us. We need to improve in the shortest format. I also mentioned at the toss, that we have a good bowling attack. Haris is bowling well, and he is improving everyday. I think entire Pakistan was waiting for this, even we were happy to host England” said Babar Azam in the post-match presentation after the final T20I against England.

Pakistan and New Zealand have faced each other twice in the series so far. In the first game, Pakistan beat New Zealand by 6 wickets as they chased 148 required to win. In the second game, which was a rather one-sided contest, The Kiwis defeated Pakistan by nine wickets. In their final game, New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 48 runs.

“An improvement again from the last game, nice to adjust to the conditions, clinical with the ball and we used the big side and the wind as well. Finn broke the back of the chase by being super-aggressive and Devon complemented him nicely. We thought it might suit it, we were limited with our other seam bowling options at the moment as we make sure to look after them through this period which is pretty hectic. It’s great that there’s a number of players in different roles, on this surface we want to address what’s in front of us and we did that pretty well” said NZ skipper Kane Williamson on their improved performance against Pakistan.
