Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2022 Squad, Schedule, Match List, Players List, Predicted Playing XI. Bangladesh named their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad with veteran Mahmudullah dropped and several other changes to the team that played the Asia Cup 2022 in UAE.

With 10 losses in their last 13 T20Is, Bangladesh have made wholesale changes to the T20I squad that will tour Australia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The new thinking has seen them move on from veteran players, including the experienced Mahmudullah, the fourth-most capped men’s T20I player.

If Mushfiqur Rahim‘s retirement a month out from the big event was a shocker, Bangladesh seemed to take it as a sign. They ushered in a new era by dropping Mahmudullah as well with the veteran all-rounder not finding a place in the 15 for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

With Tamim Iqbal too having announced his retirement from T20Is, Bangladesh are missing experience for the big tournament. However, having won just two of their 13 T20Is since the end of the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE, changes were imminent.

There are several changes from the squad that played the Asia Cup 2022 with Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, and Najmul Hossain Shanto back. The likes of Parvez Hossain Emon, Anamul Haque, Mahedi Hasan, and Mohammad Naim have been dropped from the squad.

Although not surprising for a tournament in Australia, Bangladesh have gone rather a pace heavy, picking as many as five legit quick bowling options in the squad – Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Edadot Hossain and Hasan Mahmud.

Although Bangladesh cut short on the spinners in the squad, there are enough all-round options to make up for it. Nasum Ahmed is backed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, with the likes of Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain also offering spin options.

Litton Das, the right-handed opening keeper hasn’t got a good average in T20Is but will play in the 2022 T20I World Cup in the absence of Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal. He had a poor 2021 T20I World Cup where he managed only 133 runs averaging 16.63 in 8 T20Is. He didn’t play in the Asia Cup 2022.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is nowadays considered an opener and may open in the 2022 T20I World Cup. In the Asia Cup 2022, he scored 38 in the only game he played against Sri Lanka off 26 balls. He has also picked 8 scalps in 18 T20Is. He has opened 5 times in his short T20I career-scoring 38, 12, 46, 10 and 5 runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz his part, opened in three games – against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 and in the two UAE fixtures and put in appreciable efforts in two of those games.

Shakib Al Hasan

The veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is nearing the end of his illustrious career and would lead the team in the 2022 T20I World Cup. He played only 2 games in Asia Cup 2022 where he scored 35 runs. Bangladesh T20I captain Shakib al Hasan returned to the playing eleven against New Zealand in the ongoing tri-series as he was given rest in the first match against Pakistan.

The Bangladesh skipper, who missed the first game after arriving late in Christchurch, batted at the number seven position to score 16 off 16 balls.

Afif Hossain

Bangladesh batter Afif Hossain said that he likes to thrive under pressure. The left-hander earned the Player of the Match award in the first T20I between the Bangladesh Tigers and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday, September 25 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh beat the hosts by seven runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Afif Hossain scored an unbeaten 77 off 55 with seven fours and three sixes. Moreover, he was involved in an unbeaten 81-run partnership with stand-in skipper Nurul Hasan for the sixth wicket after Bangladesh were reduced to 77 for five in 11 overs.

Afif Hossain, who has registered scores of 24 and 25 in this ongoing tri-series thus far, is Bangladesh’s highest run-getter in T20Is this year, having amassed 390 runs at an average of 35.45. Afif Hossain aside, only one other Bangladesh batter (Litton Das – 325 runs) has scored 200 or more runs in T20Is this calendar year.

Yasir Ali

Yasir Ali’s late assault came a little too late for Bangladesh as they suffered a 21-run defeat against Pakistan in the opening match of the T20 tri-series at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Friday. The Tigers ended up on 146-8 in their 20 overs mainly thanks to Yasir Ali, who hit five fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 42 off 21 balls that came after a string of disappointing scores from the other batters.

Mosaddek Hossain

Mosaddek Hossain played a key role with both bat and ball as Bangladesh beat the United Arab Emirates by 32 runs in Dubai on Tuesday to sweep the two-match T20I series. The batting form of Mosaddek Hossain was the only bright spot in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament and they will be hoping he can carry his form to Australia. He scored 72 runs in 2 T20Is in Asia Cup 2022 including a 48* while he scored 27 and picked 2/8 in the 2nd T20I against UAE.

Nurul Hasan

Nurul Hasan led Bangladesh in Shakib Al Hasan’s absence in the two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As far as Nurul Hasan is concerned, he will be making a comeback after the injury that he sustained during the T20I series against Zimbabwe earlier this year. After missing the Asia Cup 2022, he made the T20 World Cup 2022 squad. His career-best 42* came against Zimbabwe.

Ebadot Hossain, the Bangladesh pacer is relatively inexperienced in the T20I format as he has played only 2 T20Is to date, picking 4 scalps averaging 18.75. He picked 3/51 against Sri Lanka in an Asia Cup 2022 match. He will compete for a spot in the playing XI with veteran Mohammed Saifuddin.

Nasum Ahmed

Nasum Ahmed has picked 31 scalps in 27 T20Is averaging 20.23. Nasum Ahmed, who played 22 T20Is before making his ODI debut, won a Player of the Match award in only his second game for his figures of 3 for 19 from his allotted 10 overs.

Taskin Ahmed

Taskin Ahmed has picked only 28 scalps in 40 T20Is averaging 36.68. Taskin Ahmed made his international debut in the WT20 game against Australia in 2014. In less than two months, Taskin Ahmed made his ODI debut against the visiting Indian team and had a memorable game.

He finished with figures of 5/28. He was just 3-matches old, but his pace forced the selectors to pick him for the 2015 ICC World Cup that was hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Taskin Ahmed was Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman has picked 94 scalps in 73 T20Is averaging 21.46 with a career-best of  5/22. Mustafizur Rahman’s profile describes him as a left-arm fast medium pacer, but it’s probably more accurate to call him a fast left-arm spinner.

He can bowl with the seam up and occasionally hit speeds north of 140kph; sometimes he even swings the ball into the right-hander like other left-arm quicks. Mostly, though, he just lets his hyperflexible wrist do its thing. The left-arm seamer has been missing his ‘Fizz’ lately, evident again in the first game of the tri-nation series against Pakistan, and that is surely a headache for the team management.

The 27-year-old looked ordinary on a seaming Christchurch pitch, which behaved similarly to the pitches expected during the World Cup in Australia, and was unable to extract that extra pace and bounce, even compared to the other Bangladeshi seamers. Mustafizur Rahman simply could not live up to his reputation, going wicketless and conceding 48 runs from his four overs, both in the Power play and death overs.
