S Sreesanth Open To Playing In Overseas Leagues And Coaching Roles After Retiring From Indian Cricket

Indian pace bowler S Sreesanth has revealed that he will be happy to take on any coaching roles or play in overseas leagues after confirming his retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday.

Sreesanth took to Twitter to say that he will be making way for the youngsters at the domestic level. He had tried to enter the IPL 2022 mega auction but couldn’t make it to the list of players to be auctioned.

Nevertheless, the Kerala pacer has stated if the BCCI permits, he will definitely play in franchise leagues across the world or even take up coaching roles.

Thank you for supporting me, especially on my comeback to domestic cricket. I am retiring from first-class, all forms of cricket in domestic cricket. Looking forward to being part of maybe a coaching set-up to help the youngsters. If possible, play leagues across the globe once the BCCI gives me permission.”

I am completely fit but one of the reasons (for retiring) is the youngsters. I got an opportunity to play for my state and my country when another personality retired. I am very confident that Kerala cricket and Indian cricket is in the right hands,” he said in a video shared on his Twitter account.

Sreesanth was banned for life back in 2013 after being involved in a spot-fixing scandal. It was lifted in 2020 and he subsequently made his return to cricket at a competitive level. Sreesanth was chosen in the Kerala squad ahead of the 2021 domestic season as well. However, he decided it is time to call it a day and make way for the upcoming batch of cricketers.

For the next generation of cricketers..I have chosen to end my first class cricket career. This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life. I ve cherished every moment,” Sreesanth wrote on Twitter.

Sreesanth played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India in a career spanning six years. He is one of the very few players part of both the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squads.
